In honour of his birthday, the Roman Senate in 44BC named the month of July after their powerful leader and statesman, Julius Ceaser. Prior to that it had been known as Quintilis (meaning fifth) being the fifth month of the old calendar year.

For many of us, the month of September signals the end of summer. Astronomers base the seasons on celestial events and so the date for autumn is decided on when the hours of daylight and darkness are roughly the same.

August is traditionally the month most families take their summer break, it’s also when us parents are confronted with the big question, how on earth are we going to cope over the next five or six weeks?
